Enrolment for the primary school

Information for parents

Composition of classes:
Classes are composed of regular and full time sessions.
The regular classes are scheduled for 27 hours a week with 3 hours non-compulsory in the morning.
There are 2 teachers in each full-time class. It is scheduled for 40 hours spread over 5 days (morning and afternoon) from Monday to Friday.

Religion
At the time of registration parents have the right to choose or to refuse the teachings of the catholic religion.
This choice is not intended to give ground for any form of discrimination.
If a child does not attend religion lesson (2 hours a week) the family can choose between the following different alternatives:
1) an alternative subject
2) a study activity of individual research in the company of a teacher
3) to take the child home during religion lesson

Method of admission
The family has the right to choose the school in which to register their child.
In case the request of admission to a school is not granted because there are too many requestes, the school will make a selection in relation to the approved method of the school council.

School and family relations
The school will organized individual meetings between parents and teachers. The time and the types of such meetings will be communicated to the parents at the beginning of the school year.
It is possibile to arrange for the presence of a cultural mediator.

School report, report-card
This document helps the parents to know the overall evaluation of the child’s school performance in which the progress and needs are identified.
It is handed over at the end of the first four months of the school year to the parents by the teachers.
As from this year an ability file will be drawn for each student, which means an observation report will be gathered to help keep track of each student’s performance.

Regulation for re-admission after absence from school
If a student should be absent for more than five days, it would be required that a medical certificate be presented for re-admission in class. If the absence from school is less than five days, it is necessary to follow the regulations laid down by the school.

School administration
All administrative matters relating to the student should be directed to the school secretary, especially:
registration,
an appointment with the school official
delivery of certificates
change of school
The Dirigente Scolastico represents, coordinates and promotes the activity of school.

Registration
To register it is necessary to contact the school Secretary concerned during january 2005. It is not necessary to attach any other document.

The right to education and compulsory course
The italian school system promotes free and compulsory education from the age of 6 to the age of 18. At the age of 14 pupils can choose between attending high school or professional training until the age of 18.


Services

School transportation
It is reserved for children who live in some specific zones of the city suburb which has no sufficient pubblic means of transport.
The service operates throughout the school year, (in and out). The family would be required to pay a fee. In relation to income (document with declaration ISEE) a reduced fee is possible.

The law does not obligate the presence of an adult to accompany the pupils in the school bus.

Contribution for purchase of text books
Text books are free.

Scholarships
Every year the Emilia Romagna region assign scholarships to students of primary and secondary schools of first and second grade. The amount of scholarship for students of first grade secondary schools (ex midle school) amounts to € 250,00. The families that fall into the ISEE category fixed by the region’s call for bids can apply. The period for the bid is between 20th January and 20th February. For information on how to obtain the forms, contact the appropriate school secretary.
